Code Of Ethics

 

  • Members of the National Dog Trainers Federation agree to abide by the following Code of  Ethics and any Member who breaches the Code may be subject to disciplinary action by the Federation
     
  • Members shall ensure that all dogs under their care are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and receive proper veterinary care.
     
  • Members shall refrain from and where possible prevent any acts of cruelty or mistreatment to dogs. They will also protect dogs from undue physical and psychological stress.
     
  • Members shall practice the profession of dog training to the best of their ability and within the limits of their expertise.
     
  • Members shall improve their knowledge, and understanding of dog behaviour, training and care.
     
  • Members shall ensure that dogs under their care are kept under effective control when in public areas.
     
  • Members shall, when selling or re-homing a dog, inform the purchaser of any and all ailments and provide information on the care, feeding and other requirements of the animal.
     
  • Members shall ensure that any dog sold or leased by them is in a state of good health and that they do not knowingly, falsely advertise or mislead any person regarding the performance of the dog.
     
  • Members shall deal honestly and fairly with the public and other members of the industry and avoid misrepresentation of their services, qualifications or experience.
     
  • Business Members shall provide conscientious care for the dogs entrusted to them, being constantly attentive to their security, safety and well-being and to place the welfare of the animal above all other business considerations.
     
  • Business Members shall be responsible when placing values on their services and consider the time, skill, experience and any special circumstances involved in the performance of that service when determining any fee.
     
  • Business Members shall quote correctly and accurately before the start of any training program and make the client fully aware of the fees.
     
  • Business Members shall avoid slander or defamation of their competitors and actions or business practices which may result in dishonour upon their competitors or of the dog training industry in general.
     
  • As the NDTF is a member of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC), members are also bound by the PIJAC Code of Ethics. Copies can be obtained by request from the NDTF or on the PIJAC website, www.pijac.com.au
